PE & Swimming stuff

Welcome and thanks for visiting, I hope you find something you can use or get an idea from something you see. The purpose of this blog is to share back with fellow teachers in the PE community as I have gained knowledge and inspiration from others as well. I teach Primary PE at Vientiane International School, an IB school in Laos running all three programs. My teaching and this blog therefore focuses on PYP PE and the following areas in particular:

  • Using a concept driven student-led inquiry based approach while undertaking lessons and units.
  • Connecting with classroom units to incorporate an element of trans-disciplinary learning and teaching.
  • Using swimming to enhance the unit of inquiry and view the swimming pool as the venue to continue learning.

With particular regards to swimming, I do believe our younger students do need to engage in a 'learn to swim' type program in order to learn the necessary skills to undertake units in the water in the future, otherwise it is just too unsafe. Therefore, my EY and Prep students do stand-alone swimming and in grade one, I begin to transition small groups to unit connected learning experiences where possible.

Thanks again for visiting and feel free to make comments or suggestions so I can keep trying improve this blog.
